Open your banking app, choose PayShap, paste the number and pay.
Example only. This page never asks for your card number, PIN or banking login.
How a Tip QR Code Works
Built for a delivery company whose drivers wanted tips but whose management wanted nothing to do with handling them. The business sets up the codes once; each driver looks after their own details.
Step 1: Create the Tip Codes
In QR Code Pro, choose the Driver Tip code type for one person, or upload a spreadsheet of driver names to create codes in bulk. Each code comes with a one-time 8-digit PIN, and a bulk upload gives you a driver sheet listing every code and PIN.
Step 2: Hand Each Driver Their Code and PIN
Print the code on a vehicle sticker, delivery bag tag, name badge or card, and give the driver their PIN privately. The PIN is shown once, so keep the driver sheet somewhere safe until every driver is set up.
Step 3: The Driver Adds Their Own Details
The driver scans their code, enters the PIN, types their name and PayShap number (and bank details if they want EFT too), and agrees to show them. Five wrong PIN attempts lock the code for 15 minutes.
Step 4: Customers Scan and Tip
The customer scans, sees "Tip" and the driver's name, taps Copy on the PayShap number, opens their banking app, chooses PayShap, pastes the number and pays. No cash, no card machine and no app to download.
Your Business Never Touches the Money
Paid Bank to Bank
The customer pays the driver directly from their own banking app. Tips never pass through QR Code Pro or your company, so there is nothing to collect, reconcile or pay out.
Details Stay Private
Drivers' PayShap numbers and bank details are stored encrypted. Your business dashboard only shows whether a driver has added PayShap or EFT, never the numbers.
Driver Consent First
Nothing appears on a tip page until the driver has entered their details and agreed to show them to customers. Tip pages are kept out of Google search.
PIN-Protected Setup
Each code has its own 8-digit PIN. Five wrong attempts lock the code for 15 minutes, so a photo of the sticker is not enough to change the details.
Reusable When Staff Change
Reissue a code when a driver leaves: the old details are wiped, the old PIN stops working, and the same printed sticker is ready for the next driver.
Scan Counts per Driver
See how often each driver's code is scanned. We are upfront that this counts scans, not tips paid, because payments happen inside the customer's bank.
Tipping with PayShap in South Africa
PayShap is a payment option inside South African banking apps that lets you pay someone using a ShapID, which is normally their cellphone number. That makes it a natural fit for tipping: the customer copies one number, pastes it into their banking app and pays.
According to the banks themselves, Standard Bank says PayShap funds arrive "within minutes" and Nedbank says the payment is "reflected in the PayShap recipient's account immediately". Limits and fees are set by the customer's bank: Standard Bank caps a PayShap payment at R3 000, while Nedbank allows up to R50 000 at a time. Standard Bank also notes that both banks need to offer PayShap.
If a customer's bank does not offer PayShap, drivers can also show their bank details for a normal EFT. An EFT between banks can take longer to arrive, so PayShap is shown first.
Who Uses Tip QR Codes
A sole trader can use the same code as a personal tip jar: create one code, enter your own PayShap number, and print it on your card or stand.
Tip QR Code Pricing
Each tip code counts as one QR code on your plan, and QR Code Pro takes no cut of tips. Start with a 14-day trial of 20 codes. Pro is R99/month for 50 codes, Pro+ is R199/month for 200, Team is R299/month for 500, and Enterprise is R1 850/month for 2 000 drivers. All plans are billed in ZAR via PayFast.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does a tip QR code work?
The business prints a QR code for each driver or staff member and hands over a one-time 8-digit PIN. The driver scans their code, enters the PIN, agrees to show their details, and adds their own PayShap number and, optionally, bank details for EFT. When a customer scans the code, they see the driver's name, suggested tip amounts and a Copy button for the PayShap number. The customer then pays the tip from their own banking app.
Does the business see or handle the tips?
No. Tips go straight from the customer's bank account to the driver's account, and no money passes through QR Code Pro or the business. The business account only sees whether a driver has added PayShap or EFT details, never the numbers themselves, which are stored encrypted.
What is PayShap and does the customer need it?
PayShap is a payment option in South African banking apps that lets you pay someone using a ShapID, which is normally their cellphone number. Standard Bank says funds arrive "within minutes" and Nedbank says the payment is "reflected in the PayShap recipient's account immediately". Both the customer's and the driver's banks need to offer PayShap. If they don't, the driver can also show bank details for a normal EFT, which can take longer to arrive.
Is there a limit on how much a customer can tip?
The limit is set by the customer's bank, not by QR Code Pro. For example, Standard Bank says PayShap payments "cannot exceed R3 000 per single transaction", while Nedbank allows up to R50 000 at a time. Banks may also charge a fee to pay by PayShap. The suggested amounts shown on the tip page can be set to anything up to R5 000.
Can QR Code Pro confirm that a tip was paid?
No. Because customers pay from their own banking app, QR Code Pro sees scans, not payments. Your dashboard shows how often each driver's code was scanned; only the driver's bank statement shows the tips received.
What happens when a driver leaves or changes their details?
The driver can update their own details at any time with their PIN. When a driver leaves, the business reissues the code: this wipes the old driver's payment details, locks out their PIN and session, and generates a new PIN for the next driver, so the printed code can be reused.
Is a tip QR code safe for customers?
The tip page only shows a name, suggested amounts and details to copy. It never asks for a card number, PIN or banking login, and the customer approves the payment inside their own banking app. The page is kept out of Google search because it shows a private person's payment details, and nothing is shown until the driver has agreed to it.
How much does a tip QR code cost?
Each tip code counts as one QR code on your plan. The 14-day trial includes 20 codes. Pro is R99/month for 50 codes, Pro+ is R199/month for 200, Team is R299/month for 500 and Enterprise is R1 850/month for 2 000. QR Code Pro does not take a cut of tips.
